Midlaj Group exports plywood to India - The Rising Nepal

BY GOVINDA SHARMA, Banke, June 9: Midlaj Group at Indrapur of Janaki Rural Municipality-3 in Banke has been successful to export locally-produced plywood to India. For the first time, the company exported plywood worth Rs. 1 million to Prayagraj in India.

Almost for a year, the company was struggling to sell the plywood in the market and clear the bank loans. Rihan Miya, chairman and CEO of Midlaj Group, said, "I was worried about the business after the plywood could not get into the market during an economic slump. Now, large volumes of orders are being placed for plywood and I am concerned that the company might not be able to meet the demand."

He said, "I exported plywood from my industry to India for the first time, and the positive response from Indian customers led to another order. Even Indian industrialists are visiting the company. They have trusted the product and are willing to buy more."

Miya informed that the businessmen from Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, Bahraich, Nanpara and other cities had visited the company to place an order. The plywood and wooden doors prepared from Uttis (Nepalese alder, a fast-growing tree that's native to Southeast Asia) species are mostly picked by Indian businessmen.

The Midlaj Group informed that the Nepali market mostly works on credit and would take time to collect money from the market. But, Indian businessmen are doing business with advance payment. It said that they were taking initiatives in the Indian market after getting permission for export.

The company established two years ago employs around 50 people and is expanded over one bigha and four katthas of land. It produces around 7,500 sets of plywood per month.
